Weed, CA

You might well have already heard – by way of family or friends who might live in the area, or via the news – of the fires burning in Weed, CA. As of the writing of this blog post, only 20 percent of the fire is contained. Well over 1,000 structures are threatened. I don’t know how many have already burned; we keep hearing conflicting reports on that number. Over 1,000 firefighters are on the scene fighting this blaze. There is a $10,000 reward out for information leading to the cause of this fire.

Desirée Lee and I live about fifty miles North of Weed. We had family living down there, attending college. Luckily, they made it out okay. They evacuated just ahead of the fires reaching the town.

Due to the unusually warm, dry winter we had last year, this wildfire season has been very bad. We’re in a valley here. Smoke from the fires keeps coming in, but can’t really get back out. As a result, the smoke just drifts around the valley, pushed here and there, over and again by the wind. It’ll stay here until rain or snow knocks it out of the air.

On the day of this writing, it’s also very, very, very windy. Part of me is curious to know what this high wind is doing to the wildfires – in Weed, and in other places around. Part of me is afraid to know. It can’t be anything good, I don’t imagine.

Please, regardless of where you live, regardless of whether or not you have anyone in Weed, CA, or other areas that are currently being threatened – or destroyed – by wildfires, keep the victims of these fires in your thoughts. They need all of the good energy they can get at the moment.

Thank you.
