Internet Pirates

Not long ago several of my novels were discovered on a pirate site. Among those titles was my bestselling, award-winning book “Quintana Roo, Yucatan“. I was very displeased, and distressed upon hearing this. Why? Because those books are being stolen. Each e-book download of a title means money lost to me. It’s royalties that I would have earned by was of legitimate sales, gone. Poof! Authors don’t make a lot per sale to begin with. Our income is generated by way of lots of sales. Each pirated copy, each theft, steals one of those sales from us.

Not only am I an author, but I’m also a husband and father. I have a wife and child to support. Each theft that keeps royalties from me, keeps that money from my family, too. Pirates don’t just steal from the author, they steal from the authors’ spouses, and children. It’s deplorable.

As an author, and as a husband, and as a father, I’m asking you not to download pirated works. Pay the money. Buy the work. Pay the author for all of the time they’ve put into creating that work. Allow the author that income for support of themselves, and their families. Please.

If you discover any of my work, or work by my very talented wife Desirée Lee, on a pirate site anywhere, please let us know. Simply send me a message via the “Contact” page of my website. We thank you for your help in this fight against piracy.

DAZ 3D

For the hit webcomic “MoonWraith“, Desirée Lee and I use several software programs to turn out complete artwork/pages. The first of those in the process is DAZ 3D. However, recently, DAZ 3D upgraded to a new version. I’m having problems rendering artwork. Art for Page #1 rendered fine. But, every single time I try rendering art for Page #2, the software freaks out, and crashes.

Is anyone reading this post familiar enough with DAZ 3D to offer some advice? Thus far their tech support hasn’t proved helpful on this issue.

Issue #8 is running on the website right now. Our script for Issue #9 is in place. I’m trying to get artwork for it done now, before going back to work on “Warder: Changing Guard”.

By the way, anyone wanting to really help us out on “MoonWraith” can support the project over on the project’s Patreon page.

Thank you all in advance!

Town Hall Meeting

Finding_Bigfoot

Yesterday, Desirée Lee found out that the cast and crew of the hit Animal Planet series “Finding Bigfoot” will be filming not too terribly far from where we live in a couple of weeks. Anyone familiar with the show knows of the town hall meetings. Well, on the 16th of this month, one such meeting will be held up in Chiloquin, Oregon. See the article about it here. We’re making plans to attend. With us there, there’s a chance we’ll end up on-screen in the episode when it airs. Keep watching this blog/website for updates as this progresses.

As you all know, Desirée and I have a book in edits right now called “Hidden Tribe“. That book is a work of fiction, but it’s inspired in large part by real-life events surrounding at least one sasquatch I encountered while growing up in central Ohio. For those of you who aren’t familiar with those accounts, you can see a post here that went on-line several years ago listing them.

We are also members of a local sasquatch research group called State of Jefferson Sasquatch Research. If anyone has any sasquatch accounts, especially ones taking place in northern California or southern Oregon, please get in touch with me regarding those.

Fan Mail Address

Envelope

Though I’ve put this out there before, from time time I still get asked about a snail-mail address for fans who want to reach me that way. Please contact me via snail-mail at:

Umbral Press

C/O Scott Harper

P.O. Box 671

Dorris, CA 96023

If you’d like reply, or an item sent to me to be autographed returned to you, please be courteous enough to enclose return postage, too.

And, to cover something else that’s come up before – and simply arrived in the mail unannounced – I won’t read over stories to give my input, or editing on them if they’re snail-mailed to me. If you’d care to hire me as an editor, let’s talk. But please don’t just up and send your work to me, expecting me to do so. Especially for free. And especially if the enclosed work is hand-written. Yes, this has happened!

I always look forward to, and cherish, hearing from my fans!

Butte Valley Library

Butte_Valley_Library

Thanks to Butte Valley Library for the contest/drawing, and my win in it! I’m looking forward to reading the book I claimed as my prize – “The Complete Sherlock Holmes”. It’s ever Sherlock Holmes novel, and short story ever written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, collected in one hardcover volume. I haven’t had the chance to begin reading it, yet, but look forward to doing so. Desiree Lee has already latched onto it, and begun reading it, though!

Nearly Wrapped

“Warder: Changing Guard” is still moving along nicely. I’m working on the final chapter of the first draft. Part of this last chapter of it is taken right from the original comic book script. Part of it is new, tying into the set-up for future events that I’m weaving through the book adaptation.

Once this is finished, I’ll be switching over to artwork for the next issue of “MoonWraith“. After that, I’ll go over “Warder: Changing Guard” again myself before turning it in for edits.

Speaking of “MoonWraith”, since this is Monday a new page is up.
