More “The Dark Crystal”

It’s been a while since I mentioned this. Why? Desirée and I probably won’t be turning in a submission for the contest now. It isn’t that we don’t want to—far from it! However, despite going back and rewatching “The Dark Crystal”, no ideas have occurred to either of us that we feel are detailed enough, or good enough, to pursue. We don’t want to simply slap something together to submit for the YA novel contest for “The Dark Crystal” prequel. We feel that would be worse than not entering at all.

Who knows? Maybe something will come to us that we feel is worth writing for it. If so, and if that happens in time to write the entry and submit, we’ll do that. If not, we’ll simply continue with our current projects—of which there are many!

This is one of the problems inherent in writing in a world created by someone else. No one knows the characters, backgrounds, set-ups, and situations as well as the original creator. For someone outside of that to try and be part of it, it’s difficult to make the characters and situations feel true to the original source material. With everything else Desirée and I have going on—both professionally and personally—right now, we simply haven’t had the time to devote to the brainstorming for ideas for this contest. Again, we still could write an entry. It all depends upon the whims of inspiration at this point.

“The Dark Crystal”

Yesterday afternoon Desirée found something very interesting. The creative minds behind the classic film “The Dark Crystal” are looking to expand the story into young adult novels. They are seeking submissions from authors. Desirée and I are very excited about this, as we’re both fans of the film. We plan to make the time this weekend to sit down and re-watch “The Dark Crystal”. Neither of us have seen the movie in way too long. We need the refresher on it. After watching it again, we plan to go over all the information regarding the author submissions for the young adult book contest, and start putting together some ideas. Keep watching this blog/website for updates as we progress on this!
