Prequel

Not long ago I mentioned on this blog/website that a brand new, original Wendy Markland short story would be included in the Umbral Press re-release of my first Wendy Markland book, “Predators or Prey?” A concept for that project has been agreed upon. This new short story will be a prequel to the Wendy Markland series as a whole, taking place before the events covered in “Predators or Prey?”. The working title of the piece is currently “It Isn’t Paranoia”. It will be included in the re-release along with the previously published short story, “Remnants”. Currently, “Predators or Prey?”, and “Remnants” are undergoing a new editing process. Meanwhile, I’m plotting out “It Isn’t Paranoia”, which is planned to have a far larger impact on Wendy Markland down the road…

Editing

Edits are well underway on my first Wendy Markland novel, “Predators or Prey?”, for a re-release via Umbral Press. It’s been a while now since I parted ways with the publishing company that first released the three existing Wendy Markland books – “Predators or Prey?”, “Necromancer”, and “Vindicated”. With the edits going on for the re-release, it has come to my attention just how poorly-edited the previous editions – the original e-book release, and the paperback release that came some time afterward – were. I apologize to each and every one of you for that poor editing. The editing was one of the problems with that publisher; it was one of the reasons I left them. I had no idea that the final, published editions of “Predator or Prey?” were such a mess, though. Expect different from the Umbral Press re-release.

While I’m on the subject, expect the Umbral Press re-release of “Predators or Prey?” to include two short stories featuring your favorite monster hunter – Wendy Markland. The current plan is for this new edition to include “Remnants”, a short story which had been added to “Predators or Prey?” for the prior paperback release, and also a new, original, first-time-in-print short story.

Please keep watching for news, and updates!

“Predators or Prey?”—Screenplay Available

Predators_or_Prey_Amazon_Studios

Logline: Wendy Markland and Jacob Iverson are con artists. They make their living pretending to be vampire hunters. On their latest “case” they run afoul of real vampires. They go on the run, struggling to survive, as their whole belief system is turned upside down.

“Predators or Prey?” is a feature-length screenplay. It’s based on my book, “Predators or Prey?”, which was my fourth novel. It was the first book in my Wendy Markland series. Currently, that book is unavailable, as are the other two current books in that series, those being “Necromancer” and “Vindicated”. The script is intended as a live-action project. However, I can see this being made as a CGI project, as well. Even producing this script as a live-action project would require a good number of effects to visualize the glowing eyes of the vampires, vampire deaths, and such. There are also a couple of building fires in the script, which are directly from the book, and important to the plot.

Anyone interested in reading the “Predators or Prey?” script, please get in touch with me via the “Contact” page of my website.

Wendy Markland

Stake

As I’ve stated in past posts on this blog/site, my Wendy Markland novels are, currently, off the market for reasons I don’t want to go into here. If you run across one of them somewhere for sale new, please let me know. They shouldn’t be wherever you found them; someone, somewhere has made a mistake if that happens. Those titles are:

“Predators or Prey?”

“Necromancer”

“Vindicated”

Hopefully those books will be re-edited, and re-released through a different publishing house.

Sadly, it looks as if all of the work that has gone into the comic book spin-off series has come to nothing. The publisher, who was just starting up by launching “Wendy Markland: Chronicles Nocturnum”, seems to not be launching after all. The artist who was doing pencils, inks, and colors for the book also seem to have lost interest in the project. There’s been no word from either front for many months now. Messages from me to them have gone unanswered. So that, as they say, seems to be that for the comic book project. For the moment, anyway. I’ll just keep that in my back pocket. Maybe it can be pulled out, and developed someday in the future.

In the meantime, assuming the pre-existing Wendy Markland books named above are re-edited, and re-released as hoped for, Wendy Markland’s adventures will continue in novels. I have ideas for several more books. In addition, I have ideas for several stories that were going to be written for the comic book series. Since it doesn’t look as if that project will happen anytime soon, if ever, those ideas will probably be added to, and developed as full-length novels for the series. Or worked in with other ideas, adding to what I already had planned for future books in the series. Expect more Wendy Markland novellas and/or short stories, too. Some of those unused comic book story plots would be perfect for shorter fiction formats.

Amazon Author Page

I’ve posted this on my site and WordPress blog before. But, it’s been a while.

Frequently, I’m asked if one or another of my books is available via Amazon.com. The answer? Yes, it is. Here’s the link for my Amazon Author Page. Any of my currently available books are there. It’s one-stop shopping for anyone wishing to stock up on my books.

As stated above, all of my currently available books are listed there. “Predators or Prey?”, “Necromancer”, “Vindicated” (those three being the previously published Wendy Markland novels), and “Shadow Castes: Book 1 – Aspects” aren’t supposed to be there. If you see a listing for any of those titles, someone, somewhere, has made a mistake. My hope is to get those four books re-edited, and released via a different publishing house. If and when that happens, they will, without a doubt, be available on Amazon again. That will also open the door for me to continue the Wendy Markland series, and release the other two-thirds of the “Shadow Castes” trilogy.

So, please visit my Amazon Author Page using the link given above. Have fun shopping, and have fun reading. Enjoy!

Updated

Recently, I updated the parts of this blog that don’t typically change – the “About” and “My Books” pages.

For the “About” section, not a lot was added, or changed. What material is new, or different, should have been made so long before now. That’s my fault; I’ve simply been so busy with family and work that I’d forgotten it.

The “My Books” section underwent a more radical change. Again, it’s something that ought to have been done long, long before I got to it. As you know, I’m no longer with publishing house who published “Predators or Prey?”, “Necromancer”, “Vindicated”, or “Shadow Castes: Book 1 – Aspects”. Those books are, for now at least, unavailable. They’ve been pulled from the “My Books” page. That same publisher had also picked up my first three books, which I had originally self-published, and released editions of them under their publishing house label, too. Those books were “Winter’s Rite”, “Well Wishes”, and “Gauntlet”. Those editions have likewise been removed from the “My Books” page. However, the original self-published editions – both paperback and e-book – are still there for your convenience.

Hopefully, the existing Wendy Markland novels – “Predators or Prey?”, “Necromancer”, and “Vindicated” – and “Shadow Castes:Book 1 – Aspects” will be re-edited, and released under a different label in the near future. If and when that happens, there will, of course, be new cover art for those books. At such a time, they will be reinstated on the “My Books” page of my blog. Such re-releases would, also, lead to my continuing the Wendy Markland series. I have a plethora of ideas for more books in that series. When we reach that point, Wendy is going to find herself dealing with more than vampires, werewolves, and zombies! Also, the re-release of “Shadow Castes: Book 1 – Aspects” would open the door for my writing the second and third installments of that trilogy. Let me say, for fans of “Shadow Castes: Book 1 – Aspects”, I haven’t forgotten that trilogy. Circumstances have simply taken me away from it for the time being. Book 2 and Book 3 are outlined. If and when Book 1 gets a re-release via another publishing house, the releases of Book 2 and Book 3 will only be a matter of time.
