Legal

A year ago I first started talking here about a project that my wife – bestselling, award-winning author Desirée Lee – and myself hope to do with the amazing musical talent Mr. Tom Smith. We still hope that project will happen. Mr. Smith still wants to do the film. He still likes the ideas we’ve put before him. However, doing a screenplay based on a musician’s song is new territory for us, and Mr. Smith. We had hoped to begin moving on this film project once our new book, “Hidden Tribe“, had wrapped up. “Hidden Tribe” is currently in edits. Currently, Mr. Smith is exploring the legal issues, and red tape, involved with the project we want to do. Business is business. Both we, and he, need to be protected. So, hopefully this project comes together soon. Please keep watching for updates!

MRI #2

Recently I’ve talked a bit here – more than I should, probably! – about my chronic migraines, and depression. These things are still ongoing. I’m still coping with them, doing my best for myself, my family, and all of you – my fans, and readers.

Earlier this week I had a second MRI done. Something turned up on the first one a few weeks ago. The doctor isn’t sure just what, though. It’s a “bright spot” that’s being called “an anomaly”. The MRi earlier this week was to allow the doctor a closer look at it. The “bright spot” could be the cause of the migraines. Or it may have been caused by the migraines. Or it might have nothing whatsoever to do with the migraines. I’m still waiting to hear the results on the newest scan.

In the meantime, work on current projects continues. “Hidden Tribe”, coauthored by myself and my very talented wife Desirée Lee, is still going through edits. I’m working on edits for a book by Eldritch Thorn that is to be published by Umbral Press. Desirée and I are also getting ready to leap into the movie script with Mr. Tom Smith, which will be based on one of Mr. Smith’s fantastic songs. And, of course, we’re keeping up with our hit webcomic, “MoonWraith” during all of this, too.

Hopeful

We’ve heard back from Mr. Tom Smith – the musician we hope to work with on the screenplay project. He’s still interested. So, hopefully, this project will still happen. If it does, this script will be based upon one of Mr. Smith’s songs. Please keep watching for news, and updates!

“Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer’s Curse”

Once again I must apologize for the lack of posts on this blog/website lately. We’ve been busy trying to wrap up “Hidden Tribe”. I’ve also been working on edits for Umbral Press.

This morning, I watched “Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer’s Curse” on Netflix while having breakfast, and trying to get rid of a toddler head-butt induced migraine. Watching the film brought to mind some things from “Warder” – one of the properties we were trying to get picked up as a comic book. As I’ve talked about here before, we’re now planning to adapt “Warder” as a series of novels, or novellas. The movie really got me in the mood to work on that. The plan, once “Hidden Tribe” is done, has been to work on a screenplay with Mr. Tom Smith, based on one of his songs. However, Mr. Smith has not yet responded to message about the project that I sent him nearly three weeks ago. So, we don’t know now if that project will happen, or not. While we’re still hoping that it will, we don’t know.

If not, I may well begin work on the first “Warder” book once the aforementioned edits, and “Hidden Tribe” are done. That’s all I can say regarding the state of things at the moment. Please keep watching for news as it develops. And thank you all for your patience.

Notes

Notes

Not too long ago, I mentioned here that I’ve been mulling over ideas for a new project. Over the past few days, things have really begun to crystallize in my mind on a lot of details for that book. I’ve begun making some notes for it. I even have a title in mind for it! As I’ve said here before, I don’t like to start work on a project without having a title for it. Even if that title changes later on, I like to something in mind to think of a project by. I’m happy to have a title for this one already, and not to be going through a repeat of the long title choosing process that Desirée Lee and I went through on “Hidden Tribe“!

When will I truly begin work on this book? At this point, I have no idea. Sorry. I’m very excited about it. But Desirée and I are still wrapping up “Hidden Tribe”. After that, we’ll be embarking on a new feature-length screenplay. If,that it, things do come together for that as planned and expected. That film will be in collaboration with the very talented musician Mr. Tom Smith. The script will be based on one of Mr. Smith’s songs. Mr. Smith is also interested in scoring the soundtrack for the project. Please keep watching this blog/website for more information on that project if/when it develops.

After that screenplay, I’d very much like to kick off the “Warder” and/or “Ravenesque” series of books or novellas. We still aren’t 100% sure which route we want to take on those. And, of course, we need to keep up with “MoonWraith“, and duties involving our publishing company, Umbral Press. And there are other books I have in the works, plus other things Desirée and I are coauthoring. Most importantly of all, we’re also parents to a wonderful 21-month-old daughter.

So, this new book idea is on the back burner for now. I’ve no idea when I’ll truly begin work on it. But, in way, that’s a good thing. As I continue thinking about it, new ideas come to me. Hopefully this will result in a richer, better read for you – my fans. As I haven’t really even started this book yet, I don’t want to say too much about it. But it will be fantasy – the genre so many of you have joined me on my journey for. Yet it’ll be a type of book I’ve never written before. The characters will be anthropomorphic animals. Yet the book will be for an adult audience. What I have in planned is something I look forward to writing for you, and fully expect to enjoy creating. I hope all of you will be as excited about reading it as I am about writing it.

Hiatus

Confluence“, the science fiction comic book by myself and Desirée Lee, is going on hiatus. We do plan to pick up with it again, but honestly don’t know when. As you all know, we’re currently hard at work on the new novel. This is the sasquatch book project that still doesn’t have a title. After that, if things go right, we’ll be embarking on the screenplay that I’ve mentioned here before. That’s the one we’ll be working with the very talented musician Mr. Tom Smith on. In the middle of all of this, we’re still trying to work on the RPG book. And a book for authors. And keep up with “MoonWraith“. Plus we’re parents of a healthy, active, 20-month-old daughter.

In short, we’re busy. Something has to give.

Sadly, the response to “Confluence” hasn’t been what we hoped. As such, neither have sales. So, we’re setting this project aside for the time being. Again, we plan to come back to it when times allows. There’s just no time right now to devote ourselves to a project and schedule that isn’t giving us the needed return. Want us to get back to “Confluence” more quickly? Support the project by picking up your copies at the URL given at the start of this post.

Project Updates

Writing isn’t a fast, or easy thing to do. Be it novels, or screenplays, it takes time to do it right. Still, the novel that Desirée Lee and I are currently co-authoring is moving along nicely. At the moment, we’re just over 21,000 words into it. This is the work of fiction involving sasquatch that I’ve mentioned a few times here before. This is the one that we’re trying to have out by this coming summer in order to take advantage of a couple of good promotional opportunities then.

Once this book is wrapped up, and if things go according to plan, we’ll then by embarking on a screenplay with the extremely talented musician Tom Smith. That project will be based on one of Mr. Smith’s songs. There’s also a very good chance that he’ll be scoring the music for the film.

And, this month’s issue of “Confluence” is also out. Find it, along with the first three issues, here.

Issue #6 of “MoonWraith” is just over halfway through. Issue #7 is complete, and ready to go. It’ll begin running on April 13th, and run until September 7th at the usual rate of one page per week – “MoonWraith” Mondays. Sadly, the potential producer who was interested in “MoonWaith” simply wasn’t able to work the project into his already busy schedule. Ultimately, he felt the need to turn the project down. On the up side, another potential producer is currently reviewing the material with an eye toward the original concept for “MoonWraith”; that being a television series. And Desirée and I are still talking to the people from HowlCon about appearing there in 2016 to promote “MoonWraith”.

During these things, Desirée and I continue to work here and there on the RPG I’ve mentioned here, too. We’re still fleshing out the lists of monsters and spells for that project. I’m also trying to forge ahead in the screenwriting course I’ve begun. As there’s no set timetable on that, it’s not of the utmost importance at the moment.

So, that’s where we are on things, project-wise, at the moment. I want to thank all of my fans and readers for your continued support. It means the world to me!

Changing Plans

Desirée Lee and I are discussing something that will create a change of project plans. It’s actually something our fans might well like. Before, I’ve talked here about the comic book series we’re trying to get up and running – “Warder” and “Ravenesque”. As yet, we’ve been unable to find artists or art teams for those projects. And trying to keep up with two more bimonthly comic book projects may well end up being too much. There’s no time for everything now, and the only comic book projects we have running at the moment are “MoonWraith” and “Confluence“.

So, we’re giving some very serious thought to adapting “Ravenesque” and “Warder” to novels, or novellas. Either way, each would be a series. Presently, we have what had been planned as Issue #1 of “Ravenesque” scripted, and the first six issues of what had been planned for “Warder” scripted. Using that material alone, we could pen an epic “Warder” novel, or a few novellas.

Either way, it’ll be a while before we’re able to embark on such a thing. At the moment, we’re still hard at work on the sasquatch novel I’ve talked about. To take advantage of the promo opportunities this summer, that book needs to be finished, and published, within the next few months. As time allows, we’re fleshing out the bestiary and spell listings for the RPG we’re working on, too. The sasquatch novel is, of course, the top priority right now, though. And, of course, in the midst of those, we’re keeping up with both “Confluence” and “Warder”. And, as I’ve said here before, once the sasquatch novel is wrapped up, the next thing on our plate will be, assuming things work out, the screenplay we’ll be writing with the very talented musician Tom Smith.

All of that means that it’ll be a good year – maybe more – before we could really begin work on a “Warder” or “Ravenesque” book. Still, it would mean more novels coming form us, and fewer comic books. A lot of our fans seem to prefer that. So, in the end, that will likely be the way we’ll go. Nothing has been firmly, 100% decided yet. But expect, right now, anyway, for “Ravenesque” and “Warder” to make their debuts as purely written literature, rather than comic book projects.

New Premise

A weird dream I had last night has inspired what I think will be developed into a series of novellas. Desirée Lee agrees that it’s a unique concept. I’ve no idea when I’ll begin work on the first installment, given everything else we have underway at the moment, though. This is that much more stacked up on the proverbial back burner.

Right now, Desirée and I are getting ready for the 1st Annual Klamath Library ComicCon. We’ll be appearing there on October 25th. At the same time, we’re getting Issue #2 of “Confluence” ready for publication. I’m also co-writing the new movie that I’m not saying much about as yet.

After those, we need to concentrate on the sasquatch novel we have underway. It looks as if we have a good promotional opportunity lined up for that next summer—if the book has been published by then.

Once the sasquatch novel is finished and out, we have the purposed/planned film project that we’ll be teaming up with the extremely talented Tom Smith on.

All of that, plus other projects Desirée and I are working on together, and separately, including keeping up with “MoonWraith“. And that’s just writing work. Remember, we have a young daughter, so family time is of great importance to us, too.

So, we’re booked pretty solid for the next year or so. Still, I want to get this new premise slotted in when I can. Maybe it’s just that it’s a new idea, but I’m very excited about it. Please keep watching for updates—not only for this new project idea, but everything else Desirée and I have going on.

Happy International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Before Desirée Lee first mentioned  International Talk Like A Pirate Day to me a few years ago, I had never heard of it. Honestly, when she first brought it up, I thought she was joking. Even when I realized that she wasn’t, part of me still had trouble taking the concept seriously. Once the concept finally became fully accepted by my brain, I still found it hard to believe.

Now, though, with a few years to get used to the idea, I’ve gotten more into it. While I don’t dress up as a pirate for the day, I will toss out the occasional “Arrr!” or make the odd comment about booty – typically of a flirtatious innuendo-style toward Desirée. Ahem… I want us to get the entire “Pirates of the Caribbean” series on Blu-Ray, and marathon them for Talk Like A Pirate Day. My plan had been to do so for this year – get them, at least; there won’t be time in the schedule here on September 19th to watch that many films in one day. However, upon learning that a new installment in that film series is underway, I’ve held off on buying the series. I’m thinking a nice Blu-Ray box set containing all of the films would be good.

Anyway, I wanted to wish all of my fans and readers a happy and safe Talk Like A Pirate Day.

And, this is also a great time to get another plug in for the incredible work of Mr. Tom Smith. As I’ve mentioned in a recent blog post, Desirée and I may well be working with Tom Smith on a project in the fairly near future. Both of us love his work. One song of his is very pertinent to today. That song is, of course, “Talk Like A Pirate Day“. Click the link. Listen to the song. Enjoy. Laugh. Repeat.

Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day, everyone!
