Current Project Updates

Hidden_Tribe_Cover

As always, Desirée Lee and I are juggling multiple projects at one time. We’re waiting on advance reviews to come in for our upcoming sasquatch novel “Hidden Tribe“. Thus far, only one of those expected advance reviews has come in. We want to allow the others more time before the book goes to print. We’re also working on the next issue of our hit werewolf webcomic “MoonWraith“. We’re also getting closer – finally! – to getting our on-fiction book for writers published. That project ended up on the proverbial back burner for a while.

Mingled in with those things, we’re working on getting new projects edited for release through Umbral Press. And, I’m working on plans for my third sasquatch history article for the Bigtruth blog.

And, of course, we’re parents to a healthy, rambunctious little girl who is almost 3-years-old. Taking care of her is a full-time job. So, it’s very difficult to say just when any given project will be completed or released until a firm release date or deadline is set.

Please keep watching for more news and updates!

“Quagmire Fen”—Other Formats

quagmirefen_Cover

Quagmire Fen” was first released by Umbral Press in January2013. It’s taken a while, but formats other than Kindle are finally on the way! Soon, fans and readers will be able to buy this critically-acclaimed novella for their Nook, or get it on OmniLit. Stay tuned for updates, please!

Bog skulks are small, mysterious creatures with vicious teeth and claws. They turned up in Quagmire Fen some time ago. No one seems to know what they are or where they came from.

Spencer Foster is a young man who has lived his entire life in the poor backwater of Quagmire Fen. He despises the swamp, and wants only to leave and start a new life in the city with his girlfriend. But his callous drunkard of a father has other ideas.

Very soon, Spencer’s life is irrevocably changed. His destiny is now linked to the bog skulks and Quagmire Fen.

What are the bog skulks? Where did they come from? What is the connection between Spencer Foster and the odd beings he’s given so little thought to?

Prequel

Stake

Not long ago I mentioned on this blog/website that a brand new, original Wendy Markland short story would be included in the Umbral Press re-release of my first Wendy Markland book, “Predators or Prey?” A concept for that project has been agreed upon. This new short story will be a prequel to the Wendy Markland series as a whole, taking place before the events covered in “Predators or Prey?”. The working title of the piece is currently “It Isn’t Paranoia”. It will be included in the re-release along with the previously published short story, “Remnants”. Currently, “Predators or Prey?”, and “Remnants” are undergoing a new editing process. Meanwhile, I’m plotting out “It Isn’t Paranoia”, which is planned to have a far larger impact on Wendy Markland down the road…

MRI #2

Recently I’ve talked a bit here – more than I should, probably! – about my chronic migraines, and depression. These things are still ongoing. I’m still coping with them, doing my best for myself, my family, and all of you – my fans, and readers.

Earlier this week I had a second MRI done. Something turned up on the first one a few weeks ago. The doctor isn’t sure just what, though. It’s a “bright spot” that’s being called “an anomaly”. The MRi earlier this week was to allow the doctor a closer look at it. The “bright spot” could be the cause of the migraines. Or it may have been caused by the migraines. Or it might have nothing whatsoever to do with the migraines. I’m still waiting to hear the results on the newest scan.

In the meantime, work on current projects continues. “Hidden Tribe”, coauthored by myself and my very talented wife Desirée Lee, is still going through edits. I’m working on edits for a book by Eldritch Thorn that is to be published by Umbral Press. Desirée and I are also getting ready to leap into the movie script with Mr. Tom Smith, which will be based on one of Mr. Smith’s fantastic songs. And, of course, we’re keeping up with our hit webcomic, “MoonWraith” during all of this, too.

Notes

Notes

Not too long ago, I mentioned here that I’ve been mulling over ideas for a new project. Over the past few days, things have really begun to crystallize in my mind on a lot of details for that book. I’ve begun making some notes for it. I even have a title in mind for it! As I’ve said here before, I don’t like to start work on a project without having a title for it. Even if that title changes later on, I like to something in mind to think of a project by. I’m happy to have a title for this one already, and not to be going through a repeat of the long title choosing process that Desirée Lee and I went through on “Hidden Tribe“!

When will I truly begin work on this book? At this point, I have no idea. Sorry. I’m very excited about it. But Desirée and I are still wrapping up “Hidden Tribe”. After that, we’ll be embarking on a new feature-length screenplay. If,that it, things do come together for that as planned and expected. That film will be in collaboration with the very talented musician Mr. Tom Smith. The script will be based on one of Mr. Smith’s songs. Mr. Smith is also interested in scoring the soundtrack for the project. Please keep watching this blog/website for more information on that project if/when it develops.

After that screenplay, I’d very much like to kick off the “Warder” and/or “Ravenesque” series of books or novellas. We still aren’t 100% sure which route we want to take on those. And, of course, we need to keep up with “MoonWraith“, and duties involving our publishing company, Umbral Press. And there are other books I have in the works, plus other things Desirée and I are coauthoring. Most importantly of all, we’re also parents to a wonderful 21-month-old daughter.

So, this new book idea is on the back burner for now. I’ve no idea when I’ll truly begin work on it. But, in way, that’s a good thing. As I continue thinking about it, new ideas come to me. Hopefully this will result in a richer, better read for you – my fans. As I haven’t really even started this book yet, I don’t want to say too much about it. But it will be fantasy – the genre so many of you have joined me on my journey for. Yet it’ll be a type of book I’ve never written before. The characters will be anthropomorphic animals. Yet the book will be for an adult audience. What I have in planned is something I look forward to writing for you, and fully expect to enjoy creating. I hope all of you will be as excited about reading it as I am about writing it.

Editor

Umbral_Banner

As you know, Desirée Lee and I are, in addition to being bestselling, award-winning authors, owners of a small publishing house called Umbral Press. We’ve been looking to hire on an editor for a while. Recently, we put up an ad on Craig’s List to that effect. We had an unexpectedly large number of responses. Some of those were good. Others were not so good. But, we’re currently going over the resumes that were sent to us. We’ve narrowing down the list of potentials. Hopefully we’ll make a choice, and have a new editor working for Umbral Press soon. Once that happens, expect Umbral Press’s output to increase. We realize that things there have been slow for a while. We’re trying hard to change that.

Speaking of Umbral Press, Desirée and I are always looking for new authors to publish, too. Are you a writer? Then go to Umbral Press’s website, and check out our requirements on the “Submissions” page.
