Songs

weird-al-yankovic

Since going to see the “Weird Al” Yankovic concert not long ago, a couple of song parodies that, as far as I know, as original have been floating in my mind. They’ve almost been writing themselves. I keep thinking of typing them up, and sharing them. Is anyone interested in that bit of amusement? Or would I just be wasting time?

“Weird Al” Yankovic Concert

Weird_Al_Yankovic

Over the weekend, Desirée Lee, and I took a trip up to Eugene, Oregon to see “Weird Al” Yankovic in concert. It was part of his “Mandatory World Tour”. While Desirée has been to many, many music concerts, this was my first one. It was a terrific show, too! Even with all of the concerts Desirée has been to see, she’s said several times that “Weird Al” puts on a better show than anyone she’s ever seen before. Neither of us will ever be able to look at a port-a-potty the same again, either! If you’ve seen the show, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, I don’t want to spoil it for you!

Our thanks to Mr. Yankovic, and everyone who helped to make the concert a reality. Our thanks, too, to all of the great staff from the diners we visited, and the motel at which we stayed!

Piracy Is Bad

As bestselling, award-winning authors, both Desirée Lee and I are forced to fight a constant battle against on-line piracy. It’s a subject I’ve talked (and ranted!) about here on this blog/website before more than once. Sadly, it never ends. It’s something that all artists of any type must contend with these days.

Desirée and I are also both fans of “Weird Al” Yankovic. Sadly, we’ve fallen behind on picking up his albums. We just bought “Straight Outta Lynwood” recently. We still need to pick up “Alpocalypse”, and “Mandatory Fun”. Anyway, until listening “Straight Outta Lynwood” in its entirety, neither of us had ever heard Mr. Yankovic’s song “Don’t Download This Song” before. It’s his plea for people to stop music piracy.

The same plea goes out (again!) from myself and Desirée. Please don’t steal our work. If you like it, buy it. Please. That goes for any artist – writer, musician, or visual artist. Please, please, please stop the piracy! There’s a part of “Don’t Download This Song” that goes, “So don’t download this song. The record store’s where you belong. Go, and buy the CD, like you know that you should. Oh, don’t download this song.” As Desirée and I are authors, we’re saying, “So don’t download this book. The bookstore’s where you belong. Go, and buy the paperback, like you know that should. Oh, don’t download this book.”
